Literacy & Reading Support
Reading draws on the language children hear, understand, and use. BVG SLP offers online literacy and reading support that focuses on these language foundations, helping children practice skills connected to understanding words and meaning.
Book a ConsultationWhen support may help
- Rhyming, identifying sounds, or blending sounds in words is difficult.
- Connecting spoken sounds with letters takes extra support.
- Unfamiliar vocabulary makes stories or classroom texts harder to understand.
- Your child can read words aloud but struggles to explain what they read.
Skills we may address
- Phonological awareness, including noticing rhymes and syllables.
- Phonemic awareness, including identifying, blending, and separating individual sounds.
- Sound-letter relationships within an individualized language and literacy plan.
- Vocabulary, sentence meaning, and reading comprehension.
- Discussing, sequencing, and explaining information from a text.
An SLP supports the language skills involved in literacy. At BVG SLP, this service focuses on language-based needs rather than promising a comprehensive reading curriculum. Recommendations may include collaboration with your child's teacher or other reading professionals.
How online therapy works
Shared texts, pictures, and sound activities create opportunities to practice literacy-related language skills in a live online session. Your SLP chooses tasks based on your child's needs and adjusts the level of support. The goal is meaningful language use connected to reading, not simply completing worksheets.
Sessions typically last 30 minutes, with duration and frequency individualized to clinical needs. We discuss whether virtual therapy is a good fit and what adult support or technology your child may need.
Helping skills carry into everyday life
Your SLP can suggest ways to build practice into reading together, such as discussing a new word, noticing sounds, or talking about what happened in a story. Brief shared activities can connect therapy goals with books your child enjoys.
