Expressive & Receptive Language Therapy

All Speech Therapy Services

Understanding what others say and sharing your own ideas are both part of language. BVG SLP provides virtual speech and language therapy for children who need support with receptive language (understanding) or expressive language (communicating ideas).

When support may help

  • Your child finds spoken directions difficult to follow, even when the task is familiar.
  • Finding words or putting thoughts into sentences takes extra effort.
  • Answering questions or explaining what happened can be challenging.
  • Conversations or classroom language leave your child feeling unsure.

Skills we may address

  • Understanding spoken language and following directions.
  • Building vocabulary and connections between words.
  • Developing sentences to share information, needs, and ideas.
  • Answering questions and explaining events in a clear sequence.
  • Using functional language during everyday routines and interactions.

These observations are a starting point for a conversation, not a diagnosis. We consider your child's strengths, languages, experiences, and communication needs when planning next steps.

How online therapy works

Therapy activities are selected around the language skills your child needs in daily life. Pictures, shared stories, games, and conversation can offer opportunities to understand and use language. Your SLP adjusts the amount of support and complexity as your child practices.

Sessions typically last 30 minutes, with duration and frequency individualized to clinical needs. We discuss whether virtual therapy is a good fit and what adult support or technology your child may need.

Helping skills carry into everyday life

You can help carry skills into familiar routines, such as talking about a book or describing the steps in a favorite activity. Your SLP will suggest manageable strategies, such as giving thinking time or modeling a slightly expanded sentence.

Language also supports reading. Learn about literacy and reading support or social communication support.
