The tapestry of fall – with its crimson leaves, pumpkin aromas, and mild breezes – doesn’t just resonate with our senses, it can inspire our therapy sessions too. As Speech-Language Pathologists, setting the mood for our sessions can make a considerable difference. Whether it’s face-to-face or in a virtual setting, a touch of fall can create a welcoming atmosphere and offer a multitude of learning opportunities. Find all your Fall Therapy Activities in one easy place!
Intro: Falling for Fall Themes
As the trees dress in vibrant hues, why shouldn’t our therapy rooms (both face-to-face and virtual) do the same?
- Face-to-Face Therapy Rooms: Consider adding some decorative fall leaves, a pumpkin-scented candle, or even a cozy autumnal throw for your chair. Bringing in a small bale of hay, fall flowers (artificials will do the trick), and a simple fall backdrop can create the perfect photo op for your students. Create a cute bulletin board with the pictures for a personal touch. These elements not only make your space feel cozy but can serve as conversation starters and plenty of objects for descriptive activities.
-
Virtual Therapy Rooms: Use fall-themed virtual backgrounds or incorporate autumn-themed interactive slides. Adding digital stickers or emojis related to the season can also pique the interest of your students. Add a few interactive GIFs to give the digital room some added dimension to keep your students excited to engage. Allow them to compare and contrast the new elements in the Fall themed virtual room. So much language can be facilitated and it’s a great option for articulation carryover too!

Fall is upon us, and there’s no denying, this season has its own unique charm! As a Floridian, I cherish the subtle dip to the refreshing 70s temperatures (northern folks, I know you’re chuckling). It’s a joy to witness my boys playing outside, making the most of this delightful climate.
